New Syfy Shows!
We finally know what Farscape creator Rockne S. O’Bannon was hinting at via Twitter a couple of months ago. Syfy has picked up a show of his called Defiance. The show is about a frontier planet that has been transformed using alien terraforming technology. Humans and aliens are forced to learn to live together.
The show will star Grant Bowler who will be playing a character named Jeb Nolan. Nolan is basically the sheriff. He’s a former Marine who fought in a war against the aliens. He lost his wife and child because of the war.
The show will also have an MMO associated with it being created in collaboration with Trion Worlds.
Casey isn’t the first person to make the comparison between Defiance and Firefly.
Production on Defiance begins April, 2012.
Syfy has also announced that it has greenlit the pilot episode for a television series about time travel called Rewind. The show is about a team of military field operatives and civilian scientists who travel back in time to alter past events in an attempt to prevent a deadly terrorist attack.
And, finally, Deadline Hollywood was the first to announce that Syfy has expanded the next season of Warehouse 13 to 20 episodes. The first three seasons of the show were all 13 episodes so this is a significant expansion of the series.

CW Announces Pilots
It was a really good week for Rockne S. O’Bannon. First the details about his deal with Syfy were announced. Then, the CW announced that they had greenlit a pilot for another series produced by him. The show, Cult, was originally created for the WB but the WB went under before they had a chance to make it. It’s about a series of murders that the police are certain are being committed by the rabid fans of a tv show. You see, the fans are reenacting the crimes that happened on the show.
The CW also announced this week that they are picking up the Green Arrow. It’s being written by Warehouse 13 alum Andrew Kreisberg and Marc Guggenheim. David Nutter will direct. No word on whether or not Justin Hartley, who played the Green Arrow on Smallville, will be involved in the project.

No More Star Wars Movies
George Lucas has promised to never make another Star Wars movie again. The announcement was made in an interview with New York Times. Clearly too small a venue for such an important announcement. But, alas … Lucas made this decision because he has grown weary of the criticism from fans. Specifically, he said, "Why would I make any more, when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?"
Yep … I’m claiming credit for this one.
However, Rick McCallum confirmed this week that pre-production on a live-action Star Wars TV series is still ongoing. The working title is Star Wars: Underworld. It will be more than three to four years until they start production.

Deadpool Progress
At the Amazing Arizona Comic Con last weekend Rob Liefeld dropped a bombshell about the Deadpool movie:
They’ve got a great director on the movie, they’ve got a great script. I may or may have not seen some sort of test of footage that would blow your mind if you saw it and go holy crap and that’s Deadpool in costume. Katana swords, guns, shooting people’s faces off and making me laugh. And I may or may not have seen something that looks just like that. And you’ve got what would amount to the first R Rated X-Men movie. Because that script is R Rated.
They may or may not have wanted to shoot eight minutes to see how it would play. And all I can tell you, it’s close. It’s closer that it’s even been to going, or going Naaah, that’s too scary a proposition to make a R Rated Deadpool movie.”

Hunting Bounty
Everyone knows that the hot new massively multi-player online role playing game Star Wars: The Old Republic is the pitten’s meow. I just wanted to chime in and say that playing a Bounty Hunter is rightfully bad-ass. We don’t usually go into any length on the topics of gaming, but this is a game that is well thought out, story driven and extremely immersive. The best part of this game is that you are genuinely building your character as you go along. For example, I decided I wanted to roll a character on the side of the Sith Empire that would always take the path of the light side. It turns out that this requires quite a bit of lying and talking other characters out of fighting. Also thrown in the mix is the fact that my companion doesn’t like me as much when I choose an option that refuses payment.
SOPA Blackout
On January 18th many internet sites went dark to protest a bill working it’s way through Congress called SOPA, and it’s Senate version PIPA. Wikipedia, Reddit, Mozilla, Google, and many others either shutdown their websites or put specific links to information to protest the bills.
Two days later the United States Department of Justice shut down Megaupload.com and charged seven of it’s executives with 5 different counts of engaging in a scheme to offer material online without compensating the copyright holders.
In a related development, several Hollywood moguls have publicly announced that they are refusing to back the campaigns of incumbent politicians who do not support SOPA and/or PIPA. Including the President. Former Democratic Senator, and current MPAA President, Chris Dodd called the blackout a “dangerous gimmick.” Several Hollywood fundraisers featuring the First Lady have been cancelled by the executives who were planning on hosting them.
On Friday both bills were withdrawn.
