SciFiChick Flick: ‘Eyeborgs’ Review

Eyeborgs movie poster

In a world very much like our own, out of fear of terrorism a bill is passed that creates the Eyeborgs. All surveillance cameras are linked together and cameras with feet are added so they can go everywhere. They are all ran by a system called Sky…I mean ODIN (Optical Defense Intelligence Network). Okay so now you have a army of little Eyeborgs that are connected and ran by a central computer. Can you guess what happens? I did.

The story is old and has been told before the lone man who knows the truth and has to fight the system.

SciFiChick Flick: Hunter Prey Review

Hunter Prey Movie Poster

This movie starts out with a good science fiction scene a crash landing and a shoot out.

The first characters you encounter look to be in imitation Boba Fett costumes. I prepared myself to be drawn into the story to see who is shooting at them. Then when the characters talk it takes me back to my high school days and listening to the announcements over the crackly PA system. So these people have the technology to make spaceships but not a good helmet speaker. I rewound a couple times trying to figure out what the characters were saying. But then I remind myself this is a science fiction movie so what is being said probably did not matter. It does get easier to understand the longer you watch. Which made me very happy because I could understand some of the ‘brilliant’ dialogue, see my memorable quotes section to get a taste.

New Ways to Geek Out on YouTube.

As a culture we are using the internet more and more to get our media. I am excited to see where this is going to take us. And lately I am getting excited for some new channels that are coming to YouTube. Especially when channels on TV cancel perfectly good science fiction programing. Chris Hardwick states why this is a good idea while talking about his ‘Nerdist Channel’

“This channel will give us the opportunity to create programming that would normally be crushed by the constraints of television (um, I still love and work in you, TV!). Continue reading

Giving in a geeky way.

As geeks and nerds we all tend to spend a lot of time in our own heads. Whether that is reading a book, playing a video game, figuring out quantum theory, or watching our favorite sci fi movie. Sometimes you have to come out of your mental cave and look at what is going on in the world. There are charities out there that will appeal to your geekiness. To make it easier I have provided a list of some of my favorites and what is cool about them. Continue reading

Han Solo, cold-blooded killer or roguish smuggler?

Lucas' Revisionist History from 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope'

Lucas' Revisionist History from 'Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope'

I figured I would chime in on the “Han shot first” issue.

Lucas recently sat down with ‘The Hollywood Reporter’ where he defends his controversial ‘Star Wars’ changes and specifically about the Greedo and Han issue he says.  “The controversy over who shot first, Greedo or Han Solo, in Episode IV, what I did was try to clean up the confusion, but obviously it upset people because they wanted Solo [who seemed to be the one who shot first in the original] to be a cold-blooded killer, but he actually isn’t. It had been done in all close-ups and it was confusing about who did what to whom. I put a little wider shot in there that made it clear that Greedo is the one who shot first, but everyone wanted to think that Han shot first, because they wanted to think that he actually just gunned him down.” Continue reading
