Joss Whedon’s Avengers double-dips the trailer teasers

Make sure you stay in your seat when watching The Avengers not just once but twice for extra scenes. We’ve become accustomed to this Marvel universe whetting our appetite for another film and this one continues the tradition in a somewhat confusing way. It’s a bit premature to tell you exactly what was in the first bit because it’s still opening weekend. I can say that we are given a glimpse of a big bad that makes room for many levels of speculation.

NASA Space Planes?

Artist's concept of an aircraft that could enter service in 2025 from the team led by The Boeing Company. Image credit: NASA/The Boeing Company

There is some disagreement between the parts of my brain that control “logical thought” and “WordPress Plugins for Facebook’s Open Graph.” The concept itself is simple enough but it’s hard for me to test without really annoying the hell out of people by sending out post after post of things that don’t matter. In that spirit, here is a picture of concept planes that appeared at http://www.nasa.gov/topics/aeronautics/features/flight_2025.html back in January of 2011.

It’s a pretty picture if nothing else.

SciFiChick Flick: ‘Eyeborgs’ Review

Eyeborgs movie poster

In a world very much like our own, out of fear of terrorism a bill is passed that creates the Eyeborgs. All surveillance cameras are linked together and cameras with feet are added so they can go everywhere. They are all ran by a system called Sky…I mean ODIN (Optical Defense Intelligence Network). Okay so now you have a army of little Eyeborgs that are connected and ran by a central computer. Can you guess what happens? I did.

The story is old and has been told before the lone man who knows the truth and has to fight the system.

SciFiChick Flick: Hunter Prey Review

Hunter Prey Movie Poster

Hunter Prey Movie Poster

This movie starts out with a good science fiction scene a crash landing and a shoot out.

The first characters you encounter look to be in imitation Boba Fett costumes. I prepared myself to be drawn into the story to see who is shooting at them. Then when the characters talk it takes me back to my high school days and listening to the announcements over the crackly PA system. So these people have the technology to make spaceships but not a good helmet speaker. I rewound a couple times trying to figure out what the characters were saying. But then I remind myself this is a science fiction movie so what is being said probably did not matter. It does get easier to understand the longer you watch. Which made me very happy because I could understand some of the ‘brilliant’ dialogue, see my memorable quotes section to get a taste.

Bryan Lunduke throws his arms in the air while Chris Fisher looks on during an interview with Richard Stallman on the Linux Action Show.

I’m going to be talking with one of the most massively cool geeks on the planet. He got a ton of really good press this last week from Engadget, TechCrunch, and Boing Boing’s Cory Doctorow because of a game he’s released call Linux Tycoon. It’s a simulation game where you try to assemble the ultimate Linux distribution for fame and fortune. He also does lots of other great stuff including hosting the Linux Action Show along with Chris Fisher, a fun weekly look into the goings on in the Open-source world. It’s the first show I listen to on Monday mornings on my way to work. There’s also the main video version and all the details can be found at http://JupiterBroadcasting.com.
