I liked the council topic, but there didn’t seem to be much emphasis on the individual authors or series. Perhaps what you should do is announce your topics a week or two in advance and solicit listener input. If you had, I would have let you know that I am a huge fan of Harry Turtledove, and while I consider the Timeline-191 series to be his best, I would recommend the World War series for the SciFi Surplus audience. The first book, In the Balance, is set in 1942. While the world is immersed in World War II, aliens invade the Earth, forcing those who are bitter enemies to band together to fight an even greater foe. There are four books in the World War series, followed by the Colonization trilogy, and the story is finished up in Homeward Bound. You can read just the first series and be immensely satisfied. The second half of the series is not nearly as interesting, but I read them and they were OK.

Also on the topic of this show, I would immediately dismiss any list that has the Dark Knight rated in the top 15 movies of all time. This is why most sports halls of fame have a five year waiting period before someone can be elected. It gives voters time to reflect on the achievements of the individuals. Time will tell if The Dark Knight is an all-time classic. I for one was not that thrilled with it, but that’s just my opinion.

    Thanks for the great show!
    Jeff

The Top 500 list is a joke. Too many contemporary references. I’d say more, but it’s generally not welcomed by the mgmt!

  3. Luzid Says:

    Hey, where’s the new show?

    I need my fix!

  4. Edward Lee Says:

Ah, ah, ah … don’t criticize the peeps, or you’ll face Casey’s wrath!!!!!!!

  5. Casey Says:

A new show is on the way. I had to take a real job this week and we need a few days to adjust to a new normal. I’m also working on a new format for the show and I hope you like it. :)

  6. Edward Lee Says:

Congrats on the new job, dude!

  7. Luzid Says:

As long as it’s not a short show, I’ll love it.

  8. Edward Lee Says:

Ah, ah, ah! What did I TELL you about trashing Casey’s peeps?!

  9. Martin L Collins Says:

Loved the theme. I have to agree with Jeff about Turtledove’s World at War series. One of my all time favorite set of books. Every time I eat anything with ginger in it, I am reminded of the books. Just read the first book. It turned me into a Turtledove fan.
Another series that was not talked about was Marvel’s “What If…” series. It was the only comic series that I had (at one time) every single issue of. Each book was its own story. Like anything else, it had hits and misses but since each story was a what if, you never knew what was going to happen next.

  10. Luzid Says:

Edward, not wanting a short show is hardly trashing anyone. Relax.

  11. Edward Lee Says:

    Don’t tell me! Tell Casey!

  12. Casey Says:

The shows will be a bit inconsistent for a couple weeks but the plan is to make 2 half-hour shows each week. Many of the topics end up being longer so that will reflect in the show’s length. I do think we’re getting closer to being able to also launch Jeromy’s Space show and Vince and I are working up a concept for a really odd geeky political show. :)

  13. Edward Lee Says:

Great! Inconsistent is what you do best! Just kidding, Casey …

Let slip more details of the geeky political show, too. That sounds like it could be kinda fun.

Space shows are a dime a dozen via podcasting. Anything to make Jeromy’s different? Just curious …
