…Now that the introductions are out of the way, Let’s get our geek on!
Michael Angeli, the co-executive producer of Caprica, the upcoming spin-off of Battlestar Galactica, says the two projects really have little in common. He says no part of the story happens in space. The only ties are the concept of robots, the planet and the character Joseph Adama, the father of Admiral William Adama. You can find the trailer at: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sQlhlHwXjj0.
And while we’re on the topic of NOT Battlestar Galactica, The proposed 2-hour Galactica film that will follow the series finale has a working title. The British Columbia Film Commission keeps a registry of all projects shot in the western Canadian province. They are saying the entry is “Battlestar Galactica 2009 Movie: The Plan.”
Sony Pictures is auctioning a visit to the “Spider-man 4″ set and a walk on role in the film to benefit the charity “Stand Up To Cancer.” The winning bidder will also get to walk the red carpet at the premier with a complementary designer outfit for him or herself and a guest. This promotion is taking place before there are any production plans for the movie. The studio says it’s committed to a 2011 release.
Robert Downey Jr. may be starring in another superhero movie, or at least his voice. The “Iron Man” star is in talks to lead the “DreamWorks Animation” film “Master Mind.” The story is about a villain who loses the will to live after accidentally killing his arch-enemy. The project is produced by Ben Stiller’s “Red Hour Films.” The release date listed at IMDB is November 5th, 2010.
There is some good spoilage about the upcoming 8th season of Smallville and you can find a link to it in our show notes. The one burning question that we all had is who are the two hot DC women that we’ve been teased about so much. Those two characters are Maxima and Plastique. The biggest change in Smallville will be spending even more time in Metropolis and no time with Lex Luthor. Also, Lana is gone and the Green Arrow is back.

A SciFi Wire poll asking for input about which new speculative fiction show is going to get cancelled first has some interesting results.
- 9% “The Eleventh Hour” (CBS)
- 13% “My Own Worst Enemy” (NBC)
- 14% “Fringe” (Fox)
- 17% “Life on Mars” (ABC)
- 17% “Kings” (NBC)
- 30% “Knight Rider” (NBC)
SciFi Surplus is going to start a dead pool to guess which new shows will be canceled first!
Thus ends the Council!

A completely unsubstantiated claim about Doctor Who was made by British tabloid “News of the World.” They are saying that two of the five Doctor Who episodes for this coming year are going to be filmed in the U.S. and will feature a “big-name” American woman as his companion.
We got an email from a Canadian woman who goes by S.A.M. She had way more to say than I can actually fit in right now, but she had a couple good points to make. The first is that she has correctly observed that my distaste for Enterprise is a direct conflict with my love of the Star Trek Mirror Universe. This is a person that is really paying attention.
Second suggested the idea that we sell “certified geek cards.” I really like this idea and I’ve already started looking into ways to make this happen. I kind of like the idea of making the geek cards a reward for people that help the show. Stuff like blogging about us and having us be guests on other podcasts or even dropping a few buck in the Tip Jar at SciFiSurplus.com. We could also keep a list on the site of the certified geeks and link to your blogs and shows.
