What does it signify…in human culture and how does that extend to sci-fi?
“National Costumes” (Star Trek?)
“Positions of Authority”/Status - “ragged” clothes (ex: in Reign of Fire, Battlestar Galactica, etc.)
“gender roles”
“Profession/Function” (white coats on doctors in most “universes”).
“nudity” (Again, I go to trek with this, but lots of other examples)
Jewelry/adornment (crowns, special swords/helmets, etc).
“armor” and protective gear
“Bodysuits”
“comic book characters/heros” - Met Ball theme this year
