SciFi Surplus Podcast #039
May 10, 2008
Thank you for listening to us. This is show number 39. In the news we’ll be talking about Heroes, the Battlestar Galactica spin-off, Caprica, Simon Pegg and Reaper. We’re also going to get you up to date on our SciFi 16 tournament. I have a special message for everyone that voted for Round 3 on Wednesday and Thursday, the 7th and 8th of May. Due to a code error on my part, no votes were counted. I encourage you to go back and vote again.
Another quick item I have to deal with is a problem with show number 38, the last council. I posted the show without editing out some language and because I was delirious with haste, I thought I could just put an “explicit” tag on it. That ended up being a bad idea so I fixed it and reposted the file. If you have a show number 38 that is tagged “explicit” and you don’t want it, delete that file and redownload.
All right, let’s get our geek on!
Casey: I’m Casey and Jeromy is filling in for Vince today.

Jeromy: Bruce Boxleitner, who fans of Babylon 5 know as Captain Sheridan, will be joining NBCs Heroes as a recurring role. The part was said to be modeled after Senator John McCain but the word now is the character has been remolded. According to TV-Guide dot com, the new season of Heroes will continue to focus the stories on the core group of people from the beginning of the story.

Jeromy: Battlestar Galactica spinoff, Caprica, has cast Esai (EE-Sigh) Morales in the role of Joseph Adama. Those that watched Jericho know Morales played Major Beck. Joseph Adama is the father of Admiral William Adama.
Eureka To Be Lighter
Source
Casey: The SciFi Channel’s show, Eureka has made it known that they will be getting back to their roots for season three. The upcoming episodes will be lighter in tone and feature more of the relationships that made season one a success.
Spaced Comes to DVD
Source
Jeromy: The British comedy, “Spaced,” will be coming to DVD in North America in July. While not specifically a genre show, Spaced was created by and stars Simon Pegg, one of the principles behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. Pegg plays a comic artist that fakes a relationship with a writer to rent a desirable apartment.
CW’s Reaper Is Like To Get Second Season
Source
Casey: The CW’s Reaper is likely to get a second season. According to E online, an insider says that the Devil’s bounty hunter comedy drama will be picked up in the fall. Reaper was created by Kevin Smith, who also wrote the pilot. The show started with critical acclaim but the ratings were less than extraordinary.
Jeromy: And that’s Anti-witness News

I hear so many good things about Reaper, I’ve been meaning to try it. I think the reason it’s having problems is the same reason I avoided it- it looks really stupid! But it gets a lot of good reviews so it’s on my list of things to catch up on this Summer during the fresh episode famine.
I also thought I’d try Jericho, but you guys said it turned to crap in the last season and then it was cancelled, so I feel like it would be a waste of time.
“Eureka” I was always curious about. Worth watching?
“Spaced” I’ve only seen one scene of, but it was really funny- Simon Pegg giving a poor little kid hell because he liked the Star Wars prequel movies.
Great scoop about Morales in “Caprica”- none of the geeks in my office knew about that. The more I hear about that show, the more I like.
Thanks for the show! Seemed a little short this week?

This show certainly fell into the category of short.
1. Jericho ended up not being worth the journey.
2. Eureka is funny and light and mixes drama with parody.
3. Reaper is funny in a very childish way. They’ve finally got some story arc going for a finale cliff-hanger.
