Cleese Joins “The Day The Earth Stood Still”

Dan: I’m Dan, filling in for the vacationing Vince. I-G-N is reporting that John Cleese is in negotiations to join the cast of “The Day The Earth Stood Still.” The remake of the 19-51 classic will star Keanu Reeves as Klaatu. Cleese is expected to play Doctor Barnhardt, the physicist that is key in understanding the mystery behind the alien visit. The film hits theaters on December 12th of this year.
del Toro to Direct “The Hobbit?”

Casey: Guillermo del Toro is in talks to direct “The Hobbit.” Peter Jackson, the mastermind behind “The Lord of the Rings” movie Trilogy, will be producing the film and will have creative control. Jackson and del Toro will begin the process of adapting the Tolkien work for the screen as soon as the writer’s strike is resolved.
Freddy Kreuger Reborn

Dan: The “Nightmare on Elm Street” franchise is going to be re-imagined by the same crew that brought us the new “Texas Chainsaw Massacre.” The Platinum Dunes production company and New Line Cinema are going to recreate Freddy Kreuger and relaunch the franchise on the big screen. Platinum Dunes is also responsible for the re-start of “Friday the 13th,” which will be in theaters in early May.
Cloverfield Sequel Talks

Casey: Cloverfield director, Matt Reeves, is in talks with Paramount to direct a sequel to the film. Cloverfield broke records for having the best-ever Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend release. Timing of the next film depends largely on getting Reeves, writer, Drew Goddard, and producer, J.J. Abrams all on board.
Ender’s Video Game

Dan: Orson Scott Card has agreed to give exclusive video game rights to the independent “Chair Entertainment Group.” Production will begin to create a game based on the Battle Room senarios from the “Ender’s Game” series. Chair is expected to first offer a game for download-able platforms but the license is for all next generation consoles, hand-helds and P-Cs.

Casey: The first season of Farscape is now available for download at iTunes. The Jim Henson Company has struck a deal with “New Video Group Incorporated” to bring digital versions of the cult classic show along with early episodes of the children’s program, “Fraggle Rock” to computers and iPods.
