Thank you for taking time to spend with us. This show number 16 and there’s lots to talk about. This week the media in the U-S is building toward Super Bowl 42 and Randy will join me to discuss sports in Science Fiction and Fantasy. We’re also going to give you our thoughts on the recent Monster success of J.J Abrams’ Cloverfield. In the news is Heath Ledger, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Star Trek 11, and an Extra-terrestrial Airport. It’s time to get our geek on!

Joker and Heath Ledger

Casey: The new Batman movie, “The Dark Knight,” will still be released on July eighteenth this summer despite the death of Heath Ledger in a suspected accidental drug overdose. Warner Brothers is expected to pull the actor’s image, playing the Joker, off of posters and promotional materials. This is to avoid any perception that the company it trying to cash in on Ledger’s posthumous final film.

Jericho Watch

Vince: The executive producer of television’s post-apocalyptic drama Jericho, says they should have a good idea whether or not the series will continue fairly soon after it returns to C-B-S on February twelfth. Carol Barbee expects to know whether or not to prepare for a third season around the beginning of March. She says the next big story arc is already worked out and they just need to break it down into individual episodes.

Cloverfield Monster Release

Casey: J-J Abrams’ Cloverfield is a monster success. The movie has topped the Star Wars special edition 1997 box office numbers for a January release. Cloverfield brought in forty-one million dollars in it’s opening weekend. Considering that this project only cost twenty-five million to make, it’s already generating profit for Paramount.

TV Festival Feature’s Buffy

Vince: The cast of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” will be reunited for Paley-fest-Oh-Eight. The three day festival honors contributors to media. William S. Paley is the founder of C-B-S and this annual event that is in it’s twenty-fifth year. Also expected to be part of the festival are the casts of new shows, “Chuck” and “Pushing Daisies.” Paley-fest takes place March fourteenth through the seventeenth in Los Angeles.

Title for New 007 Movie

Casey: The producers of the latest double-oh-seven movie have announced the new title. The twenty-second Bond film will be called “Quantum of Solace” and will feature Daniel Craig as the masterful super-spy. Opening day for “Quantum of Solace” is November seventh in both the U-S and U-K.

Toy Story goes 3-D

Vince: Disney-Pixar has announced plans to recreate “Toy Story” and “Toy Story 2” in a 3-D format. This is a build up to a proposed “Toy Story 3” feature that will also be in 3-D due in theaters the summer of 2010. Converting the first two movies involves retrieving or recreating all of the digital elements and rebuilding the film.

James Cawley to Appear in Abrams Trek XI

Casey: James Cawley, creator and star of the fan film series “Star Trek: New Voyages” has landed a role in the new J-J Abrams “Star Trek” movie. Cawley has been a vocal detractor of the Abrams’ project and has had a change of heart since being invited to the set of the major motion picture. After meeting with Abrams and much of the cast, the semi-pro film-maker was fitted for a Starfleet uniform and was told to report for shooting. Cawley is now singing the praises of Abrams and the Trek eleven movie.

Extra-terrestrial Airport

Vince: The mysterious Area 51 in the Nevada dessert has been renamed “Homey Airport” in many official publications. Also, it’s designation on maps is K-X-T-A. The K means it’s an airport in the United States, but there’s speculation that X-T-A stands for eXtra-Terrestrial Airport.
