We are at show number eight and it’s a big one. Billie Piper, Katee Sackhoff, and James Marsters are in the news as are the new shows “Chuck,” “Bionic Woman,” and “Journeyman.” The council will talk about “getting around the galaxy” as well as the brand new Futurama DVD. I’m going to list my favorite Firefly moments and answer some email. We’re also announcing the winner of a FREE SciFi Surplus T-shirt!

The soundbite at the beginning of the show was from Mystery Men.

Congratulations!

The winner of the first-ever SciFi Surplus FREE T-shirt is Luis from Miami! We also want to thank everyone that entered.

    Hello everyone at SciFi Surplus,
I fond SciFi Surplus on iTunes today, I have just finished listening to all your episodes and have to say great show. I can not wait for Surplus One, if it is anything like this show it will be a hit. I have to say to Richard (listener) just because the podcast has the name scifi in its name that does mean that it is 100% of the time SciFi sometimes it will have fantasy and maybe the best thing of all ?geeky goodness? . I?m done with that, (ok maybe not) I hate it when people think just because you have scifi in you name that is all you can talk about is scifi. I hate that!!!!!! I was glad to hear how you at the SciFi Surplus enjoyed ?Futurama Benders Big Score? I had a showing of it at my house on Saturday. I invited over a few friends for a BBQ and a movie. I hooked the DVD player to my projector so I could have it play against the side of the house. When Futurama Benders Big Score started it was like being at opening night at a new Star Wars movie. Everybody cheering just to see new footage of Futurama it was a great time, most of us watched it twice that night. I just would like to say to all your listeners to please go out and buy Futurama Benders Big Score.
Thanks again for a great show.

I agree with SirGeorge. In fact I think that Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc are very much related to SciFi. I think Fantasy and SciFi go very well together. They both are a lot of fun and use a lot of imagination. Thanks SciFi Surplus for a great show!

By the way… you guys didn’t talk about Serenity’s Faster than light drive. What about that?

  4. BriAnna Says:

Is it faster than light? That was never clear to me. (Seeing as it takes them many weeks to get from one place to another in their solar system.)

  5. DarthByron Says:

That’s a good point. Maybe it isn’t faster than light. Although I would hope that if they can Teraform planets and first of all get to this other solar system that they would have faster than light technology. But maybe Serenity wasn’t equipped. All well.

  6. Mark Says:

Great. Now you guys have me curious about how that ship gets from place to place. :-) Because they’re obviously moving from habitable planet to habitable planet. It *had* to have an FTL drive, right? Right?

  7. BriAnna Says:

Not necessarily. Perhaps they went into stasis and traveled for 25 years or so to get from Earth That Was to the new solar system. River being frozen suggests such things are within their means. (Beyond that, the planets and moons in the solar system are habitable because they were terraformed. They are all in the SAME solar system.)
