Hey, what about time bandits? They had a great mode of timetravel, a map. It showed the holes and when they would appear in the universe, because the universe was created on the cheap.

I will have to concur: flying around the planet at super-speed is the lamest, and most unsubstantiated, time travel device. I don’t think Superman even bothers to explain this trick, making it all the more egregious.

Finally got to listen to 6 (Great podcasts-I look forward to them) but as I got into mile 3, it hit me! that y’all had left out Time Bandits. Already mentioned here tho’, so that’s good. You have the most intelligent audience in the known ‘verse. Loved the ads-Want more. One request: Pls don’t leave some of the true classics behind in your casts because of the wiz-bang-shoot-’em-ups-with-pretty-graphics movies and TV products. Nice, but there’s a whole generation who’ve NOT read A Canticle for Lebowitz, and would LOVE it. Subtle, thought provoking, entertaining and almost always guaranteed to enable one to answer the winning question in any trivia contest worth playing. Well, even if you don’t, I’ll keep listening.

Another CryoFreeze one you forgot was from the movie “Late for Dinner”. They get frozen and then wake up when they should be like 70 years old or something. And “Forever Young” with Mel Gibson does the same thing. Although I don’t think I count these as “time-travel” device. There’s no “travel” involved. They are asleep!

Also as we learn in the Lost series that the Universe will correct itself so if you see the future of someone dying and you save them they will die another way soon after.

Martian Time Slip by Philip K. Dick is a time travel story revolving around an anomalous (sp?) youth. Great book, possibly better if you’re willing to try mind altering drugs (I’m not)
Ray Bradbury’s short story “Sound of Thunder” is another good time travel story. Don’t mistake it for the movie, there are significant variances.
And for a hard scifi book, try Stephen Baxter’s Ring.

As a fan of scifi starships, I think the ships from Babylon 5 bear mentioning, especially my favorite, the Whitestar. The organic ships of the Shadow’s were rather awesome as well.
And if the Star Destroyer is cool, what about the massive Super Star Destroyers?
