Pine Cast as Kirk for Star Trek 11?
October 11, 2007
I know why you’re here — it happened to me, too. Sometime earlier today the collected pointy ears of Star Trek die-hards everywhere began to burn. We all knew what the Hollywood Reporter was later to speculate.
A new Kirk has been cast.
That’s right, boys and girls. James Tiberius “I’ve never met a woman I wouldn’t beam up” Kirk is going to return to the silver screen a year from this Christmas, and it looks like his new visage will be that of … Chris Pine!
Now, before you start posting a litany of “who?” comments below, let me take a second to refresh your memory. You might remember Chris Pine from such films as “Blind Dating,” where a dashing Pine falls in love with the Indian receptionist of his eye doctor; “Just My Luck,” in which he plays a loser who steals Lindsay Lohan’s lucky streak; and “The Princess Diaries 2,” where….
Oh, who am I kidding? We’re Star Trek fans. Citing those movies is about as helpful as opening a tribble store on the Klingon home world.
Well, whoever he is, he stands to join the likes of Anton Yelchin (Chekov), Zoe Saldana (Uhura), and — of course — Zachary Quinto as Spock. Even Leonard Nimoy is rumored to have agreed to reprise his role.
Very little else is known about Star Trek 11. Its director, JJ Abrams (of “Alias,” “Lost,” and “Armageddon” fame) is keeping the script and almost all details about the film tightly under wraps. Even the actors themselves know only the name of the role that they’re auditioning for.
But never fear, dear reader. As sure as a Vulcan’s blood is green, we at scifisurplus.com will continue to crawl through the dumpsters of talent agencies everywhere to bring you all the juiciest rumors about the new Star Trek film as they happen. Or … at least as soon as the cleaning service takes out the trash.

I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t been following the news and had no idea this movie was coming out, but… I’m almost glad I didn’t know. Now that awareness has been thrust upon me, with those big, beautiful perfect smiles of teenage filmdom shining down upon me, I feel like I was better off in the dark. Alone.
